August 2021 - Lee Rubenstein
Art Gallery 71 invites you to “feel the texture” in these new work by artist Lee Rubenstein of Germantown, NY.
Lee Rubenstein, a native of Baltimore, Md., has long been involved in varied art forms: photography, fabric sculpture, and ceramics. Newly settled on the Hudson River with his wife, Jo Hills, he is painting. These painted works are inspired by the colors seen every day from their home, as their studio is in the hamlet of Cheviot, Germantown, just 100 feet from the Hudson’s banks.
“After many years hand-building pottery with porcelain slabs, It seemed natural to build texture into my paintings, so one may find sand, burlap, acrylic medium, ceramic tile adhesive or any number of substances beneath the acrylic paint.“
