My preference for black and white photography is analogous to my taste in music. I prefer small ensembles because they allow me to pick out individual lines within the overall strains of instruments or voices. Without the distraction of color, I can focus on line and movement within an image. I work with color only when it enhances my sense of the image.

My subjects are mostly taken from nature and human made structures. I am drawn to plants, stones, water, bridges, railways – always looking for simplicity or abstracted simplicity. When shadows or silhouettes form curves and imply abstract shapes, I look for interesting relationships they offer.
