April 2021 - John Franco
Dear Friends and Art Lovers,
Does the left brain talk to the right brain?
You may get your answer in the work of John Franco, Art Gallery 71's featured artist in April. Franco's exhibition of paintings will hang from Friday, April 9-Sunday, May 2, 2021.
Dichotomy
John Franco is a practicing engineer who has worked on several of the bridges you may drive over frequently. When not working on practical engineering issues he retreats to his studio.
While practicing as an engineer, John has always responded to his other voice. He earned a diploma from the National Academy of Design and studied for three years at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture where he studied with John Dobbs and Jean Detheux.
He has practiced his art from early in his engineering career, first working on landscapes rendered in watercolor and gouache and gradually working his way to abstracts in oils. The abstract works have moved from a loose abstract of colors dancing across the canvas to geometric puzzles of greyed colors and black lines often reflective of shapes the viewer doesn’t quite recognize. While these images with their straight lines are not static they do move across the canvas in a quiet, deliberate manner. They are cool and collected leaving the viewer with a sense of calm and deliberative thought , a meeting of the engineer’s and the artist’s right and left brain.
John says about his work, "My work isn't about what I'm looking for. It's about what I find."
Also on exhibit will be the work of all members of Art Gallery71 .
