Vera Kaplan

Vera Kaplan studied art at the High School of Music and Art in NYC and then at various institutions including Hunter College, School of Visual Arts, Art Students League, and the National Academy of Fine Arts. The act of putting paint to canvas is, for Kaplan, a waking dream. She prefers not to pre-plan but just dives in and allows herself to be surprised by whatever arises on the canvas. Among her influences are the textiles and music of India, Turkey, Greece, Morocco, and Nigeria--hence the use of high key color, rhythmic repetition, and a variety of textures in her work.
